  • Planned Happenstance – practical hands-on exercises and activities to use with your students and clients
  • WCDA development – learn how to get more involved with WCDA and help us plan for organizational growth
  • Knowdell’s Motivated Skills Card Sort – tips and new tricks for using this well-known skills card sort
Presenter’s bio

Jim Peacock is the Principal of Peak-Careers Consulting, offering workshops and online seminars for career professionals, as well as career coaching. His background includes twelve years’ experience as the Director of the Advising & Career Center at a community college, twelve years’ experience as a high school counselor, and he currently works in the Colby College Career Center on a part-time contract.  

Jim is a nationally certified Global Career Development Facilitator Instructor and has taught the CDF class annually since 2000. Jim is a two-time Past President of Maine Career Development 2013-2015 & 2003 - 2004. In 2007 he received the Outstanding Career Practitioner Award from National Career Development Association (NCDA). 

Session details

Career Advising/Counseling using Planned Happenstance:  Participants will learn how to use planned happenstance theory with clients and students via hands-on exercises, brainstorming activities, and case studies.

WCDA organization development and networking: At facilitated round tables, Jim will work with WCDA members and board to plan for organizational growth and member involvement.  As former president of Maine Career Development Association, Jim enjoys working with state career development associations helping them grow and get members involved.

Dick Knowdell’s Motivated Skills Card Sort workshop: Jim will conduct a workshop on how to use the Motivated Skills Card Sort.  Even for those familiar with the card sort there will be new material as Jim will be sharing how he uses a third sort with clients to help clarify their skills.
